This publication was created to coincide with Clare Wood’s solo exhibition; Victim of Geography at Dundee Contemporary Art 24th June-10th September 2017. The work is inspired by Clare Wood’s research into the South Polar Times- series of publications produced by Captain Scott and his team during the expedition to the Antarctic on Dundee’s RSS Discovery. The dimensions and aesthetic are drawn from this collection of one-off, hand typed and illustrated publications that help give Scott and his team a focus and coping mechanism during the hardships and isolation of their long journey. The publication includes full colour images of the twelve new paintings that form her solo exhibition as well as images of source material from the artist’s studio. The publication includes an introduction by Beth Bate; Director of Dundee Contemporary Art, alongside two newly commissioned pieces of writing by Anouchka Grose and R.W Paterson in response to the work of Clare Woods.
